I strongly believe that anyone named Katie is a defacto domestic goddess. Both Katie Lee and Katie Brown are patron saints of lifestyle. They host and craft in the most amazing way and garner the respect and interest of anyone afraid of crafts or hesitant to entertain. During two events this past month that both of these women made using household products such as OxiClean and Arm & Hammer Baking Soda appealing.

Former Top Chef Host, Katie Lee has Southern charm oozing out of her pores. With a slew of recipes and off the dome ideas for gatherings, Lee showed us unlimited uses for Arm and Hammer Baking Soda. It was in her homemade cornbread and even the fizzy cocktail I enjoyed a few times.

Although, the use of Baking Soda is nothing new to me, I always have a few boxes at home; the folks from Arm &Hammer who hosted the event were kind enough to gift those that attended with Katie’s newest entertaining book The Comfort Table: Recipes for Everyday Occasions as well as Arm & Hammer’s Household Uses for Baking Soda.

You would never guess by looking at her that Katie Brown is a hilarious woman. With comedic timing and a zest for a good wisecrack, the domestic expert can make getting stains out of clothes a SNL skit. If you don’t get excited by cleaning then this will go over your head, but OxiClean has to be one of the best products to hit the market.

In a number of scenarios Katie, along with representatives of OxiClean, demonstrated the amazing capabilities of OxiClean and its range of products. Everything from red wine stains, to clouded glassware and food stains, OxiClean and a little bit of humbling humor were the fighting agents.

Both Lee and Brown made me want to throw an apron, clean my silverware, organize my towels, freshen up my linens and make an amazing four course meal. Oscar Style: Viola Davis Is More Than Just Her Hair

As an African American woman in her thirties I sat on the phone with my best girlfriend and chatted about the Oscar Red Carpet Arrivals. We applauded our favorite looks and chimed in our least faves as well. When Viola Davis sashayed onto the carpet clad in an emerald Vera Wang and bronzed skin we took notice to her dress, jewels and really hadn’t commented on her hair. It was short, cute and just an everyday occurrence in our minds.

In less than 5 minutes Twitter was a buzz with tweets that Viola “left the wig at home and opted for her natural “fro” “. I was a bit perplexed because I’ve seen women black and white don wigs, weaves and falls in all my thirty years. When Resse Witherspoon arrived on the carpet at last year’s Oscars sporting extensions (poorly mismatched to her natural hair at that) not a comment was made.

The fact that America’s eyes were glued to Viola’s choice of hairstyle rather than her phenomenal talent, tenacity and plethora of awards this season alone baffles me completely. The choice to forgo a hair extension, wig or weave is a personal decision and not something that needs to be explained. If she opted for a wig, would that make her any less “natural” in the minds of African Americans. The debate of natural versus relaxed hair garners much controversy in the black community.

In 2012 women of all ethnicities have the distinct privilege to adorn bountiful tresses, ringlets or opt for a cropped cut likened to Michelle Williams or Viola Davis without such criticism or backlash. In what could be a monumental night for Hollywood as two African American actresses could go home with an Oscar, critics are determined to take the spotlight off of what the night is poised to celebrate.... Real Talent!

Self proclaimed Queen of Media Wendy Williams has added another role to her already glam packed life with the launch of a show line slated to debut at the upcoming Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) Trade Show. The top secret venture is entitled Adorn and is produced by shoe manufacturers Ashley Taylor & Co. .

No immediate details on the target audience or retail price points, though a little birdie has hinted they'll be over the top in pure Wendy style with sizes to include 11's & 12's.

The weather may still be a bit frightful, but paying attention to your hands and nails is a must for a fabulous Spring season. Moisturizing, regular manicures and treatments are essential in the winter months.

Daily moisturizing is essential. Keep a hand cream in your handbag and make sure to apply after washing hands.
Emery boards are not just for the nail salon. Trim nails and neatly file every 2-3 days.
Pay attention to cuticles. Apply a drop of oil at night to soften the cuticles.

Greetings fabulous ones...

I seldom utilize this platform for my personal rants and thoughts. I have KishanaHolland.com for that! I strive really hard to deliver you the best in fashion, beauty and lifestyle news... Unbiased & Unscripted!
So this morning while I was prepping for my day I thought maybe I'll do something different, it is 2012 after all!

Love me or hate me.. I ain't going nowhere, so sit back, sip some tea and enjoy or hit that back button and it's all good too!

Ramblings & Thoughts

First and foremost I've never tried to be anyone other than myself. Sure I've had mentors and role models along the way, but never aspired to be anyone other than my true authentic & fabulous self. This blogger world often times opens your eyes to a world you've never really imagined. The swag and events are definitely something to smile about *Giggle*, but the pretentiousness is never something you're never prepared to deal with. As we're on the heels of NYFW, I can't help but to giggle at the numerous uncomfortable encounters that will debut right inside those glorious tents.

Such As...

That very moment when you look around and spot at least a dozen brown girls. Not huddled together chatting it up about the day's events, but all awkwardly scowling at each other as if they should have been the only ones invited to the party.

Ladies, this industry is large enough and bustling with opportunity for everyone. The fact that 80% of you are stylists never discounts your ability to network and partner on future ventures. And because you're the "It" Blogger with over 30,000 Twitter followers, does that make you any more relevant than a fab blogger with maybe 300 followers.

Each season a dear friend of mine, who also happens to be a fellow blogger dissect the eery and downright trifling behavior of some of our fellow bloggers during NYFW. We giggle about the shade we're always given by certain pr folks, the alarming increase in "crashers" invading NYFW and then there's the ever present scenarios when fellow bloggers attempt to toy with invites.. This I won't even get into.. Right now!

Anyhoo, this same very friend and I became acquainted at an industry event. Two fabulous Brown Girls.. Strangers.. Chatting it up! *Can You Imagine* I can even remember how we began our conversation. I was wearing a vintage coat and she being the vintage connoisseur quickly made an observation and it's been a wrap ever since. Our friendship has created a myriad of opportunities, experiences and countless "A'Ha" moments.

See, you can be a Brown Girl at events and actually smile with each other, converse and build relationships. It's not intricate to say the least. Be your authentic self and the possibilities are endless...

In Chic Shopping: Miss Tres Chic Embarks on the $50 Challenge

Greetings Fabulous Ones....

While many begin their New Year's resolutions, I often shy away from any affirmations or declarations. However, I'm always committed to saving money and this little shopping habit of mines can cause issues from time to time. If you're a fabulous reader of this blog you must know all about my affection for Twitter. It's such the networking portal always filled with chock'full of information you can really use and identify with.

Recently a fellow blog diva Miss Cheap Chica of the savvy shopping blog Cheapalicious tweeted about her $50 challenge for the month of January. She is committed to only spend $50 for clothing and beauty related items. I so looooved the idea! As a blogger I must admit I live a very spoiled life. My beauty closet overflows with the latest product, innovation or serum. In lieu of spending money on unnecessary items I'll just shop my closets. The same goes for clothing, so I may actually do pretty darn well at this!

I've been working on a strategy and so far..... Well you'll see for yourself at the end of the month.

Savvy Spending Tips:

Skip unnecessary trips to the mall. Opt for a leisurely walk in the park with some good music and a light snack. You'll get rid of those holiday pounds and save cash in the process!
When shopping bring CASH only! I borrowed a lil' trick from Demetrice from IMPR(4L)ess and have 50 singles in an envelope ready to roll!
Vintage is always chic! Shopping thrift stores can lead to some amazing finds. Hit those racks, be sure to try on and make it work fabulous ones!
Shop Smart... The Cheap Chica reminded me to use my coupons and shop my own closet. I'm soo ready!
Lastly, relax and have fun.. This is a great challenge to share with friends. Make it a competition! Get your BFF's together at the end of your challenge and compare your shopping finds.

10 Fashion Trends We Can Do Without in 2012.... The Worst 2011 Fashion Trends Revealed!

2011 delivered a vibrant mix of color, racy metallics and even a dash of fur comprised of faux and the real thing. Fashion is yet just another form of expression. It's the art of life that many of us can't do without or can we?

GaGa's horrid gender switcharoo look at the VMA's... It wasn't just a fashion faux-pas, it was HORRIBLE!
Poorly Fitted Blazers worn with everything.. I know they were all the rage, but pairing it with that cocktail dress is simply a no-no my dear.. Even if it is Gucci!
The Hat Attack... I adore a chic millinery design like the next gal, but topping off every look this year with that black fedora was downright annoying. So you wanted to make it your signature statement in 2011? Nice try....
Foldable Flats....We get the whole idea, every fashionista needs to glide though life being fabulous, well sometimes that fab factor takes a toll on our feet after a 12+ hour day in stilettos. The foldable flat brigade rushed in with the magical answer to our prayers, but neglected the fact that flats usually have a sole or some kind of support. In my opinion, the designers of these dangerous doo-dads should be forced to hike 20 city miles in a pair and see how fab they feel after that!
The Animal Hats... Why?? Are you living out your childhood fantasies or just like the idea of looking utterly ridiculous!
Harem Pants.. The sales girl at H&M told you were bringing sexy back a'la MC Hammer style.. She LIED!
Gladiator Sandals.. Not the sexy stiletto kind, but the O' Little Town of Bethelem Flats that make us weep each time we see one.
Kardashian lines at Sears... With the jewelry being the exception, the Karadshian clan played a game of trickery on the minds and wallets of fashionistas with over-priced cheap frocks. The bedazzled pieces did nothing for the lackluster sales at Sears either.. Stores are closing as I type!
Basketball Wives Earrings .... *Deep Breath* I know the ladies of reality television have inspired the hearts, minds and closets of many. I for one am not a fan of the over-sized hoops adorned with everything you found in the bead box.
Jeggings ... I could go on all day about these denim inspired travesties, but I'll take the fashion high-ground and just pray their romp is over
