With the celebrity baby boom is full swing, Beyonce is the latest member to be inducted into the mommy club and sent social media sites a buzz this weekend. I seldom utilize this platform for my personal rants and thoughts. I have KishanaHolland.com for that! I strive really hard to deliver you the best in fashion, beauty and lifestyle news... Unbiased & Unscripted!
So this morning while I was prepping for my day I thought maybe I'll do something different, it is 2012 after all!

Love me or hate me.. I ain't going nowhere, so sit back, sip some tea and enjoy or hit that back button and it's all good too!

Ramblings & Thoughts

First and foremost I've never tried to be anyone other than myself. Sure I've had mentors and role models along the way, but never aspired to be anyone other than my true authentic & fabulous self. This blogger world often times opens your eyes to a world you've never really imagined. The swag and events are definitely something to smile about *Giggle*, but the pretentiousness is never something you're never prepared to deal with. As we're on the heels of NYFW, I can't help but to giggle at the numerous uncomfortable encounters that will debut right inside those glorious tents.

Such As...

That very moment when you look around and spot at least a dozen brown girls. Not huddled together chatting it up about the day's events, but all awkwardly scowling at each other as if they should have been the only ones invited to the party.

Ladies, this industry is large enough and bustling with opportunity for everyone. The fact that 80% of you are stylists never discounts your ability to network and partner on future ventures. And because you're the "It" Blogger with over 30,000 Twitter followers, does that make you any more relevant than a fab blogger with maybe 300 followers.

Each season a dear friend of mine, who also happens to be a fellow blogger dissect the eery and downright trifling behavior of some of our fellow bloggers during NYFW. We giggle about the shade we're always given by certain pr folks, the alarming increase in "crashers" invading NYFW and then there's the ever present scenarios when fellow bloggers attempt to toy with invites.. This I won't even get into.. Right now!

Anyhoo, this same very friend and I became acquainted at an industry event. Two fabulous Brown Girls.. Strangers.. Chatting it up! *Can You Imagine* I can even remember how we began our conversation. I was wearing a vintage coat and she being the vintage connoisseur quickly made an observation and it's been a wrap ever since. Our friendship has created a myriad of opportunities, experiences and countless "A'Ha" moments.

See, you can be a Brown Girl at events and actually smile with each other, converse and build relationships. It's not intricate to say the least. Be your authentic self and the possibilities are endless...

In Chic Shopping: Miss Tres Chic Embarks on the $50 Challenge

Greetings Fabulous Ones....

While many begin their New Year's resolutions, I often shy away from any affirmations or declarations. However, I'm always committed to saving money and this little shopping habit of mines can cause issues from time to time. If you're a fabulous reader of this blog you must know all about my affection for Twitter. It's such the networking portal always filled with chock'full of information you can really use and identify with.

Recently a fellow blog diva Miss Cheap Chica of the savvy shopping blog Cheapalicious tweeted about her $50 challenge for the month of January. She is committed to only spend $50 for clothing and beauty related items. I so looooved the idea! As a blogger I must admit I live a very spoiled life. My beauty closet overflows with the latest product, innovation or serum. In lieu of spending money on unnecessary items I'll just shop my closets. The same goes for clothing, so I may actually do pretty darn well at this!

I've been working on a strategy and so far..... Well you'll see for yourself at the end of the month.

Savvy Spending Tips:

Skip unnecessary trips to the mall. Opt for a leisurely walk in the park with some good music and a light snack. You'll get rid of those holiday pounds and save cash in the process!
When shopping bring CASH only! I borrowed a lil' trick from Demetrice from IMPR(4L)ess and have 50 singles in an envelope ready to roll!
Vintage is always chic! Shopping thrift stores can lead to some amazing finds. Hit those racks, be sure to try on and make it work fabulous ones!
Shop Smart... The Cheap Chica reminded me to use my coupons and shop my own closet. I'm soo ready!
Lastly, relax and have fun.. This is a great challenge to share with friends. Make it a competition! Get your BFF's together at the end of your challenge and compare your shopping finds.

2011 delivered a vibrant mix of color, racy metallics and even a dash of fur comprised of faux and the real thing. Fashion is yet just another form of expression. It's the art of life that many of us can't do without or can we?

GaGa's horrid gender switcharoo look at the VMA's... It wasn't just a fashion faux-pas, it was HORRIBLE!
Poorly Fitted Blazers worn with everything.. I know they were all the rage, but pairing it with that cocktail dress is simply a no-no my dear.. Even if it is Gucci!
The Hat Attack... I adore a chic millinery design like the next gal, but topping off every look this year with that black fedora was downright annoying. So you wanted to make it your signature statement in 2011? Nice try....
Foldable Flats....We get the whole idea, every fashionista needs to glide though life being fabulous, well sometimes that fab factor takes a toll on our feet after a 12+ hour day in stilettos. The foldable flat brigade rushed in with the magical answer to our prayers, but neglected the fact that flats usually have a sole or some kind of support. In my opinion, the designers of these dangerous doo-dads should be forced to hike 20 city miles in a pair and see how fab they feel after that!
The Animal Hats... Why?? Are you living out your childhood fantasies or just like the idea of looking utterly ridiculous!
Harem Pants.. The sales girl at H&M told you were bringing sexy back a'la MC Hammer style.. She LIED!
Gladiator Sandals.. Not the sexy stiletto kind, but the O' Little Town of Bethelem Flats that make us weep each time we see one.
Kardashian lines at Sears... With the jewelry being the exception, the Karadshian clan played a game of trickery on the minds and wallets of fashionistas with over-priced cheap frocks. The bedazzled pieces did nothing for the lackluster sales at Sears either.. Stores are closing as I type!
Basketball Wives Earrings .... *Deep Breath* I know the ladies of reality television have inspired the hearts, minds and closets of many. I for one am not a fan of the over-sized hoops adorned with everything you found in the bead box.
Jeggings ... I could go on all day about these denim inspired travesties, but I'll take the fashion high-ground and just pray their romp is over

Saving money is always chic....

I've always admired a gorgeous hand crafted gift during the holidays. I remember being 8 or 9 years old and making pillows for all my family members. Although my creations could never rival a Martha Stewart design they mad my family pretty darn happy and left me feeling awesome as well.

Fast forward to my adult years with far less time on my hands, I still manage to create a cute gift here and there and I'm always amazed at how beautiful it turns out. Many of the materials and ingredients can be found right at home or may require a quick trip to your local craft store or Target.

In Chic Review: Skaná Spa at Turning Stone... Part I

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to peek in on the amazing Skana Spa at the Turning Stone in Central New York. Familiar with the majestic property via a NYC Spa media event, I was afforded the opportunity to visit and share my experience with my fiercely loyal Tres Chic Style readers.

Nestled in the confines of Verona, New York awaits a magical yet odyssey like oasis settled on the Oneida Nation land. Just five short hours outside of New York City, The Turning Stone Resort is situated on the pristine sovereign lands of the Oneida people. Upon exiting the toll road just feet away from the resort I positioned my thoughts into a tranquil, quiet place where the everyday stresses of life were to be placed on hold for the next three days.

Turning Stone boast an array of amenities including Award-Winning Golf Courses, Casino, Fine Dining, Entertainment and The World Class Skaná Spa. Moments after my arrival I was whisked away to my suite inside the Lodge. The Lodge is Turning Stone's premiere hotel and home to the Skaná Spa. The luxe caramel and rich vanilla hues provided a welcoming atmosphere and thrust you into the warm embrace of the Oneida people.

Skaná boast a unique collection of eleven treatment rooms each outfitted in the traditional Oneida decor. An authentic Oneida dream catcher sits at the center of each room, each with a unique story. "Dream Catchers" are a customary Indian tradition and believed to keep the bad dreams away at night by pulling your dreams into a delicately woven "web" and releasing the bad ones into the world for a peaceful nights sleep.

Recently I was afforded the opportunity to review the Collagenesis Skinn Eye Stem Rejen. I was familiar with the Skinn Cosmetics brand created by celebrity make-up artist Dimitri James via Shop NBC. Always eager to test new brands and get rid of tired eyes, I put the Eye Stem Rejen to the test.

Jason Segal (Gary) is quite the power tri-fecta in the film, by starring, writing and producing this witty film. Each have gone their separate ways in life with Kermit residing in Los Angeles longing for Piggy, Fozzie rocking it out in Reno and Animal tucked away in a Santa Barbara clinic in therapy... Yes, therapy! And Miss Piggy serving as plus-size editor at Vogue Paris. Tres Chic!

In Chic News: Elisabeth Glaser Kids For Kids Carnival Settles Into NYC for Their 18th Annual Year....

On November 5, 2011 celebrities, socialites and a bevy of vivacious youngsters descended downtown in support of the 18th Annual Elisabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation Kids for Kids Carnival. Held at the trendy Skylight Soho, the venue is transformed into an African Safari journey. Attendees had the opportunity to peek into the Disney reading area while being greeted by classic characters and snapping photographs.

About The Elisabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation:

Elisabeth Glaser and Ariel Glaser

Elizabeth Glaser dreamed of a world where children living with HIV and AIDS could lead long and healthy lives. Elisabeth embarked on this journey subsequently after experiencing her own personal tragedy in 1981. While delivering her gorgeous daughter Ariel, Elisabeth received a blood transfusion in which she contracted HIV. Unaware of the infection, Elisabeth passed the virus onto her daughter Ariel via breast milk and later to her son Jake in utero.

In the course of attempting to treat Ariel, Elisabeth along with her husband Paul Glaser discovered that health companies did not address the concerns of children living with AIDS. Elisabeth fighting her own battle, sprung into action and enlisted the assistance of her two dear friends Susie Zeegan and Susan DeLaurentis for helping creating a foundation to raise money for Pediatric HIV/AIDS research.

Sadly Elisabeth lost her battle in 1994, but her legacy and vision continues to live in the hearts and minds of everyone affiliated with the Elisabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Last night I had the pleasure of attending the AEON Mens Magazine launch in NYC. In attendance were the super sweet men of Aeon magazine. I say super sweet because each of the creators were the most welcoming hosts with members of the media. As the inaugural publications were handed out, attendees examined the specimen with meticulous care. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the layout, design and overall quality of the coveted read.

As I chatted with my husband, I instantly realized we may both be reading Aeon.. Together! Although it's a mens magazine, the creators at Aeon may notice their female counterparts as excited (if not more) than their target audience comprised of males 25-60. After all, we as women are always curious regarding what's on the minds of our spouses.. and the topic of sex can seem to open up the flood gates of conversation between couples or friends.

The well chosen topics and editor's notes provided me with an amazing introduction into the world of Aeon. Aeon being derived from the greek word "Forever" was founded by a group of friends intent on engaging the male species in useful and relevant conversation sans the typical men's glossy gravitas.

While the magazine notably strives to become a guide to sex and lifestyle, the Aeon man will receive information pertaining to travel, business, style and health related topics. Operations Director, Gerry Dort even hinted that a future culinary column may be added in addition to a few surprises along the way.

With an initial quarterly roll out, Aeon is expected to be published monthly in 2012. Aeon Mens Magazine hits news stands in the U.S. and The U.K on November 21 and is poised to take the print and digital media industry by storm.

Just had to peek in for a minute and share some of my absolute favorite brands at ISPA 2011. This year has been quite an amazing experience for Tres Chic Style. I have been afforded the unique opportunity to meet and chat with the brands, as well as gain insight into the brand's mission and goals. As a media professional I attend presentations, expos and endless conferences each year. None quite compare to ISPA.

The association is committed to the Spa industry and allow their members to gain knowledge and internalize information on this constantly evolving industry. The overall feeling at the conference this year was energizing and quite exciting for me. I promise to share my entire experience and even deliver some footage from the expo floor.

Day Two of ISPA Conference and I am truly living this year's theme.. Believe!
I am believing all things are possible as I sashay on through this "spatastic" wonderland of beauty this afternoon. I am so greatfeul my life is filled with dynamic opportunities and many blessings that always manage to make me smile. This week is all about the spa and beauty industry, both of which, Iam a HUGE advocate for.

Rundown of the day.....

After hitting the expo floor, I paused for lunch, then I headed over to the Lagoon Area to peek in on the Relaxation Area. I received a relaxing facial and pumpkin enzyme peel courtesy of savvy brand Dermaquest that would make Estee Lauder cry! My treatment was provided by veteran make up artist and fellow Beautynista Carla Tersni. Carla was super sweet, knowledgeable about the brand and worked her beauty "magic" along the way.

She introduced me to the company's latest product offering, the Stem Cell 3D Complex. This revolutionary product is the most advanced anti-aging to be introduced since the neuropeptide. This product is guaranteed to reduce wrinkle depth by 15% in 20 days.

Having a wonderful time in this bustling city of lights and action... Chic Peak: Halloween Behind the Scenes at Radio City Music Hall

Yesterday evening The Tres Chic Family headed to the legendary Radio City Music Hall for an evening of family fun. We're met by Dracula and whisked upstairs to the VIP Roxy Room by Dracula and ushered through an amazing tour of this majestic venue.

The kiddies were greeted by "Friends" of Radio City along the way and indulged in sweet treats as well. Once we entered the Roxy Room my heart almost stopped. Just thinking about all the legends that entered that room was enough to give me chills. As the kiddies played a bit and fellow mommy bloggers chatted it up, I took my own tour through history.

The art deco themed room complete with original furnishings were enough to make me smile. Not my ideal space for a group of overly zealous costumed children, but the evening managed to go by without incident or a spill for that matter *lol* .

Fast forward and a delightful evening was had by all..... Thanxies Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall for inviting us.

Chic Peak: Ivanka Trump's Clothing Collection

Heiress & Savvy business magnate in her own right, Ivanka Trump gears up to launch her debut collection this Spring. The collection is comprised of weekend to casual to evening pieces. . In an interview with Instyle, Ivanka shared a few sketches of her design and commented, "There is a timeless glamour to the collection".

The collection arrives at Lord & Taylor February 1st, with pieces retailing from $84 for a blouse and $199 for a jacket respectively.

Production Begins on the Remake of Sparkle...

I am so thrilled to announce production for the classic 1976 film Sparkle is underway in Detroit. Mara Brock-Akil & Salim Akil (also producers of BET's the Game) have set their sites on creating movie magic on the big screen after the highly acclaimed debut of "Jumping The Broom". I was afforded the opportunity to meet Mara & Salim earlier this year during The Game's media premiere in New York City. They're both super sweet, committed to their craft and passionate about telling stories we can all relate to.

Sparkle will debut in 2012 with an ensemble cast comprised of Hollywood's elite newcomer's as well as screen siren and songstress Whitney Houston reprising Mary Alice's role as "Mother". Jordin Sparks will morph into Irene Cara's character Sparkle who is determined to achieve fame and success in the music industry. Carmen Ejoko and resident fashionista & soap starlet Tika Sumpter will reprise the roles of "Sister" and "Delores" respectively.

I was ecstatic when I learned of this remake last year as I adore the original and have probably watched it at least 100 or so' times. We've seen renditions of Sparkle in Spike Lee's "School Daze" and En Vogue's cover of "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" . Their style and persona were magnified on the big screen and has us all lovin' the gorgeous gowns and ladylike frocks.

World Yacht Presents.....Beauty Brunch For The Cure

On a beautiful afternoon this past Sunday, ladies and a few gentleman boarded the World Yacht Princess at Pier 81 and set sail for its annual Beauty Brunch for the Cure. Guests were served sparkling rose with their brunch buffet with the New York skyline in the backdrop. The upper deck was transformed into a spa haven at sea.

Patrons were able to receive treatments and services from some of the leading authorities on beauty and wellness with proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the cure. My personal favorite, Hibba NYC was providing complimentary eyebrow threading; Bliss Spa kneaded the knots out of quite a few backs.

The recently launched John Barrett Braid Bar was on trend providing stunning prairie braids to ladies and artists from Vincent Longo did makeovers. Services were free but guests proudly donated with no issue as 100% of the donations went to Susan G. Komen for the cure. As a final note, gift bags filled with swag from the participants in addition to Mario Badescu, Phillip B and a host of others were a parting gift.

Now going on its 25^th year, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has shed light on the importance of eradicating a disease that strikes 1 in 8 women every year. There were quite a few guests whom were breast cancer survivors or knew of someone who had the disease.

The Beauty Brunch for the cure was for many a way to celebrate their own lives, the lives of others and seeking an end to breast cancer. In all, an excellent afternoon for an excellent cause.

Fashion.. Beauty and Cancer... Kind of an odd pairing, don't ya think?

Not really when you're thinking about the courageous individuals battling this disease and the talented beauty industry professionals who spend countless hours and time striving to make them look and feel fabulous.

Once again I was invited to attend the DePasquale Spa Fashion Fight For Cancer. This event is not only something I look forward to every year, but something that I am also passionate about. The DePasquale Spa and owner Justin DePasquale leads the charge in this dynamic event by raising money to benefit Cancer Care at St. Clare.

On Sunday October 3rd, The Hanover Marriott was transformed into a fashion oasis complete with runway and some of New Jersey's fashion and social elite. The event not only raises money ($50,000 this year alone), but allows the beauty community to join together to fight this killer called cancer. Models strutted the runway with elegance, style and fierce fashion.

Fashion Fight For Cancer was inspired by the life and untimely death of Dr. David DePasquale, a cousin of Justin's. His family are present each year and the love and admiration for David is felt through the entire room. Sadly this year's event was dedicated to the memory of Tatyana Petrushkevich a beloved member of the DePasquale Spa family for over 15 years.

Humorously, many of these merchants claim to offer "hassle free" returns. Whereas some retailers, genuinely believe in making the process as pain-free as possible. The fab folks at FreeShipping did some research and came up with the following top 10 online return policies.

The online-only shoe merchant gives shoppers a full 365 days to return unwanted or flawed footwear with guaranteed free shipping both ways on domestic orders. Use the endless.com online returns center for proper processing.

2. L.L.Bean
There's no time limit on returns with L.L. Bean and no authorization is required. Simply download and fill out an online form or use the form printed on your packing slip. Return shipping is free for L.L.Bean Visa Cardmembers; just use a prepaid label for fast and free service.

3. Shoebacca.com
As with endless.com, Shoebacca provides totally free shipping both ways and a 365-day window in which to return or exchange your unwanted, unworn footwear or defective products. Returns must have the original tags still attached and shipped in the original packaging.

4. Lands' End
Want to return a purchase and replace it with a different size or color? Lands' End offers free return shipping with no end date for re-orders. Here's a rare deal for a warehouse store. Costco will not only refund the cost of your purchase but it will also pick up the tab for shipping and handling. Most items may be returned at any time with the original receipts attached and in the original packaging. Most electronics, however, must be returned within 90 days.

10. Toys R Us and Babies R Us
Children change their minds so fast it can make your head spin, so a hassle-free return policy can make all the difference. The "R" Us folks accept returns within 90 days for cash back, if you paid with check or cash. Shipping costs also are refunded, but online purchases must be returned within 30 days and electronics in 45 days. No receipt is necessary if the item was purchased with plastic or from a gift registry. Shipping costs are refunded if the product is defective or damaged.
